Description

Cozy Spot Retreat is a two-story cabin in the pines outside Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Inside are three bedrooms, two and a half baths and beds for eight. The siding is white board and batten under a metal roof, a porch runs across the front, and the gravel drive curves in from a quiet cul-de-sac. It is a good fit for two families who get along.

The best trick in the house is the loft. The pool table sits upstairs behind a railing that looks down on the living room, so the folks on the couches can watch somebody try to sink the eight ball. A video game console and a stack of board games live up there too, which makes it the rainy-day room.

Downstairs is one big open space. Tall windows, a loft overhead, two cream sofas and a brown one around a round coffee table. The kitchen has white quartz counters, sage-green cabinets and a wood-clad range hood, with four woven stools along the island. A dining table seats six, and there is a coffee bar built into the cabinet wall with a glass-front hutch above it.

The main-floor bedroom has a king bed against a green plank wall, with its own bathroom. That one has a double vanity and a big tiled walk-in shower. Upstairs there is a second bedroom with a wood-slat headboard and a TV, and a hall bathroom with a tub and shower. The bunk room has two sets of twin-over-twin bunks, and somebody put a canvas teepee on a jute rug in the corner. A stacked washer and dryer is tucked into a closet.

Most of the evening happens out back. The covered deck has a hot tub, a ping pong table, an outdoor dining table, a grill and a wicker egg chair next to a gas fireplace with a TV over it. The fireplace is for the cooler months. Down the wooden stairs there is a gravel fire pit with dark Adirondack chairs, a swing frame with bench swings, and a kids’ playset. A small footbridge crosses the creek bed, which is dry some of the year and running in the wet months. String lights are hung through the trees.

Dogs are welcome. The lake and the state park are both a short drive away.
