The Gatsby

The Gatsby does not look like the usual Broken Bow cabin. It is a white modern house with vertical siding, tall glass across the front and an angled roof, set back in the pines about a mile and a half from Grateful Head and Beavers Bend Brewery. It has three bedrooms and three and a half baths, and it sleeps 12. The front door has a keypad lock, so there are no keys to hand over.

Outside is the busy part. A concrete pool with a shallow ledge and a row of loungers sits beside the house, and a hot tub is on the deck next to a tall black fireplace with a TV mounted over it. Out back there is a playhouse with a green tube slide, four saucer swings in a row, and a fire pit ringed with wooden Adirondack chairs. String lights hang over the yard and the deck. The deck also has a built-in gas grill, a dining table and a giant Connect Four.

Inside, the main room has windows from floor to ceiling, a green velvet sofa, a round coffee table and a floating staircase up to the loft. The dining table seats eight and the bar seats a few more. The kitchen has a farmhouse sink, gold fixtures, wood cabinets and a long white-topped island, and a cutout sign on the wall says stay awhile.

The king suite is on the main floor and has a double-sided fireplace you can see from the bed and from the soaking tub. The primary bathroom has two vanities and a glass shower, and the second shower is tiled in marble-look slabs with gold fixtures. A queen bedroom with its own bath is upstairs. The games loft has a shuffleboard table, a Pac-Man arcade game, a sleeper sofa and a door out to a balcony.

The bunk room has four twin beds, a bathroom and a sleeper sofa, and it sits off to one side of the main house, so the kids get a little privacy and so do the adults. A basket of board games with Scrabble, Jenga and Yahtzee in it is ready for a rainy afternoon.
