Hope Floats Lodge

Hope Floats Lodge sits on open ground beside the Glover River, a white farmhouse with three gabled dormers across the front and a long deck strung with lights. It has four bedrooms, four baths and room for 12. The riverbank is a short walk from the back door, and a few other houses sit along the same bend, so you will see their roofs down the bank.

The pool is built into the back deck, a small rectangle with a shade sail overhead and a couple of loungers beside it. A hot tub sits under the covered section, and the deck has a sectional around a fire table, an outdoor fireplace with a mounted TV, cornhole boards and a giant Connect Four. Balconies at both ends of the upper floor look out over all of it. Out front, black Adirondack chairs circle a fire pit on the gravel.

Past the yard the river runs over a wide gravel bar that is easy to walk out on. Fishing poles, inflatable kayaks and tubes come with the cabin, and a hammock hangs between two trees down near the water.

Inside is one big room under a tall white ceiling that climbs past the second floor, with shiplap walls and big windows. Brown leather sofas face a TV over a gas fireplace. The kitchen has white counters, stainless appliances, a coffee bar and an island with woven bar stools, and a dining table for ten stands near the back windows.

Three bedrooms have king beds against wood-planked walls, and each has its own bathroom, with double vanities and the same planked walls. One bath has a freestanding soaker tub by a window. The fourth bedroom is the bunk room, with pine-paneled walls, two windows, two bunk beds that sleep six between them, a woven rug and a couple of round poufs on the floor. The laundry sits in a closet off the hall.

The fireplaces, inside and out, are turned off from May through September. Keyless entry means no key hunt on a late arrival, and the restaurants and shops in Hochatown are a short drive away.
