Description

The Spruce at 136 is a one-bedroom cabin built for two people and nobody else. It is a blue board-and-batten house with a slanted metal roof, sitting by itself in a gravel clearing with pine woods all around. The windows run floor to ceiling in the main room, so the pines are the view from the sofa, the kitchen island and the bed.

The bedroom has a black four-poster king bed with a leather bench at the foot, a ceiling fan overhead and a glass door that opens onto the patio. In the bathroom there is a freestanding soaking tub beside a glass walk-in shower, and a double vanity with brass fixtures. Both rooms get plenty of daylight from big windows.

The living room and kitchen share one open space under a vaulted ceiling of wood planks. There is a sofa, two armchairs and a fireplace under the TV. The kitchen is compact but fully set up, with a stone-topped island and three stools, an electric range, a dishwasher, a microwave and a stainless refrigerator. A coffee station with two coffee makers sits on the counter by the window. The ice maker, toaster, dishes and a basic spice supply are all here, and there is a washer and dryer, so a long weekend does not need a lot of packing.

The outdoor space is what sets this cabin apart from most one-bedrooms. A covered patio runs along the side of the house with a hot tub, a gas grill, a rocking chair or two and a sofa in front of a stone fireplace with its own TV. Out on the gravel, a cedar barrel sauna sits on a wooden platform, and beside it are a porch swing on a timber frame and a fire pit with chairs for two. Cornhole is in the mix too, if you want a bit of friendly competition.

The house sits on its own gravel lot with pine woods on every side, and check-in is self-service, so arriving is simple. Broken Bow Lake, Beavers Bend State Park and the Mountain Fork River are the area draws, and you can spend the day on any of them and still have a hot tub and a sauna waiting back at the cabin.
